What is L-Tyrosine

Before we discuss the benefits of L-Tyrosine, let's talk about what it is and does...

L-Tyrosine is a non-essential amino acid, which means that the body can produce it. In the case of L-Tyrosine, the body manufactures it from phenylalanine. (Essential amino acids, by contrast, are ones the body cannot manufacture, and, therefore, must be obtained from our diet or supplementation).

L-Tyrosine is a naturally manufactured amino acid in the body, but there is a possibility that adverse reactions could occur if taken in too high a dose. However, it is an overall extremely safe supplement.

Pregnant or nursing women, or those with an existing medical condition (especially those suffering with psychiatric conditions or taking any prescription drugs) should consult with their physician before taking L-Tyrosine.

Most places recommend taking 500 mgs to 1,500 mgs per day, but we consider that to be excessive unless advised to do so by a qualified health professional. Formost people, a daily dosage of 150-300 mgs should yield benefits without the same level of risk as taking mega doses.
