Dietary supplements risks...

Do dietary supplements work?

As you may or may not be aware of, taking dietary supplements have certain risks. It is beyond the scope of this website to discuss all of the possible risks.

It may seem contradictory that dietary supplements -- which are supposed to improve your health -- may have risks, but they do.

First, certain supplements may have adverse effects if you have a specific health condition or if you are on certain prescription drugs.

For example, some herbs in supplements, such as ginkgo biloba, may thin the blood.

Thinning the blood is a good thing for some people -- such as people who are trying to prevent heart attacks. However, for people already on prescription or over the counter blood thinners like aspirin, the herbs in dietary supplements may thin the blood too much. Yes, it's true you can have too much of a good thing!

Let's take another example: fish oil supplements are some of the most health promoting, beneficial supplements people can take.

Taking fish oil may help to balance blood sugar levels and thus make the body more receptive to insulin. However, in diabetics who take insulin by injection, this may influence the amount of medicine that they need to take. Again, just an example if why dietary supplements risks exist.

Do Dietary Supplements Work

One of the biggest dietary supplements risks is simply: do dietary supplements work? The answer is yes and no!

This is because there is huge variation in supplement quality.

For starters, many supplements contain contaminants! This is one of the worst dietary supplements risks out there.

Cheap supplements have poor delivery systems which may cause the product to pass right thru your system unused.

No wonder why some people take dietary supplements and months later are wondering: do dietary supplements work? Indeed, if you are using one of the products that harbors contaminants, not only may you not receive any benefits, you may experience dietary supplements risks in the form of impaired health!

Lastly, one of the potential risks of dietary supplements is from taking too much of just one single nutrient.

A dietary supplement should be balanced with the right amount of a broad, synergistic blend of nutrients. This is how nutrients appear in foods we eat naturally, and it's been shown that taking nutrients in isolation can do more harm than good.

Choosing the Right Supplement

Based on all the factors above, we here at Nutritional Supplement have tried many products and continue to research the market for the best, most sophisticated dietary supplements.

They must be made with the absolute best ingredients; they must be manufactured at the most stringest facilities to eliminate the possibility of contaminants; they must be formulated by scientists; they must have a good delivery system (enteric coating is the best); and they must contain a broad range of nutrients to avoid single nutrient imbalances.

One product that meets all of our criteria is Total Balance. This is the product we spend our own money on to buy each month for our personal and daily use.
